Wilmington Police arrest man in connection with April 28 shooting incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting incident following an investigation.
On April 28, at approximately 3:39 a.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 600 block of North Orange Street, in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old female gunshot victim, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The case was assigned to Detective Brendan Shea of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Through the course of his investigation, Detective Shea identified 18-year-old Mehki Johnson as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On April 30, members of the Criminal Investigations Division located Johnson in the 1200 block of North French Street, and took him into custody without incident. Subsequently, police executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of West 8th Street, and recovered a loaded 5.7 x 28mm handgun.
Johnson has been charged with the following offenses:
- Attempted Murder (First Degree)
- Robbery (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
