Wilmington Police have arrested a wanted man on gun and drug charges.
On May 1, at approximately 8:51 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force were in the 2700 block of Northeast Boulevard, when they observed a male subject acting in a suspicious manner. Officers attempted to make contact with the subject, who fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, police took 52-year-old Diwani Knight into custody without incident. Knight was found to be wanted on an unrelated matter, and in possession of a loaded .357 handgun, 27.62 grams of crack cocaine, 1.54 grams of heroin, 53 Alprazolam pills, 5 MDMA pills, and $1,590.
Knight has been charged with the following offenses in addition to his outstanding warrant:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 3 Quantity
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Three Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 1 Quantity
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Two Counts
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $174,400 cash-only bail.
