PRESS RELEASE: Suspect arrested for trying to solicit a minor
LOCATION: 1200 block of Clinton Street, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: April 29th 2024
On April 29th 2024 at around 1:45 in the afternoon, a 14-year-old girl was walking home from school when an adult male in a white car contacted her. The unidentified male asked her how old she was, asked for cell phone number and asked her, “can I hit on you”? He also asked her to come closer to the vehicle. When the juvenile didn’t come closer to the suspect’s vehicle, he drove away. The girl went home and immediately called RCPD.
Detectives used the Flock system to research vehicles in the area that matched the description. Flock cameras caught a similar vehicle in the area. Detectives were able to determine that the vehicle was registered to Newark resident, Neil Porras Prado (46 years old). Detectives were able to confirm with the victim that Prado was the suspect who had harassed her. Detectives got an arrest warrant for Prado.
On May 2nd 2024 detectives arrested Prado and seized electronic items belonging to him. Prado was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for the following charges:
California Penal Code 288.3 (A), Contacting a minor with intent to have sex California Penal Code 647.6 (A)(1) Annoying or molesting victim under 18 years of age.
