Deputy Conducts Traffic Stop and Arrests Suspects on Drugs and Weapons Charges

LOCATION: Bellflower Street/ Chamberlaine Way, Adelanto
SUSPECT: Joshua Owens, 36-years-old, resident of Adelanto
Lashantel Bates, 35-years-old, resident of Adelanto
SUMMARY:
On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 10:11pm, Deputy Mora stopped a vehicle for California vehicle code violations near Bellflower Street and Chamberlaine Way in Adelanto. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua Owens, was found to have a federal no bail warrant for narcotics transportation out of Texas.
During a search of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was found. Joshua Owens was arrested without incident.
Deputy Mora authored search warrants for two residences in Adelanto where Owens is known to reside. During execution of the warrants, an extensive amount of suspected Fentanyl laced ecstasy/ MDMA pills were located. Owens' girlfriend and their three juvenile children were located inside the residence where the narcotics were found. Owens' girlfriend, Lashantel Bates, was arrested for child abuse with the possibility of great bodily injury, possession of Fentanyl for sales, and possession of a controlled substance for sales. She was booked at the High Desert Detention Center and was later released on bail. The children were turned over to the custody of a family member.
Joshua Owens, who is a documented gang member, was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for child abuse with the possibility of great bodily injury, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of Fentanyl for sales, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition. He is currently being held without bail.
