Ontario, CA - Ontario Police are investigating an officer involved shooting following the pursuit of an armed suspect, which resulted in a fatal traffic collision and attempted carjacking.

At 10:30 A.M., officers responded to the 400 block of West Maple Street regarding a disturbance.

The caller told dispatch his sister's ex-boyfriend was threatening to enter the residence if the sister did not come outside. The caller stated there were past incidents of domestic violence and threats involving a gun. Officers located the suspect inside his vehicle and began negotiating with him, but he refused to exit. The suspect had a warrant and was ordered by officers to submit to arrest. He said he would not go to jail and fled the scene. The suspect led officers on a high-speed pursuit through surface streets, as well as driving the wrong way on the freeway displaying complete disregard for public safety.

The suspect collided into a motorist near Grove Ave. and Philadelphia St., causing a multi-vehicle collision. The suspect fled from his vehicle and attempted to carjack a motorist. He then ran towards Cucamonga Ave/Philadelphia St. while armed with a handgun where an officer involved shooting occurred. A handgun was later recovered at the scene. The suspect received medical attention and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The two motorists involved in the traffic collision were treated on scene and transported to the hospital. One motorist was released with minor injuries. The other motorist succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The identity of the decedents will be released through the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office once notifications are completed.
