National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day is observed on the second Saturday of May and takes place on May 11. It is the largest food drive in the country and takes place in more than 10,000 cities and towns. One in eight Americans face hunger every day and we want to remind everyone that they can help with this wonderful initiative.  So, each year your Barnegat Letter Carriers who choose to volunteer, will collect non-perishable food donations as they deliver mail on their routes.  Food collected will be donated to our own Barnegat Food Pantry to provide food to your neighbors who may need help.  The need for food donations is great, more than 35 million Americans are unsure where their next meal is coming from.  Our food drive’s timing is crucial.  Food banks and pantries often receive the majority of their donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons.  By springtime, many pantries are depleted, entering the summer low on supplies at a time when many school breakfast and lunch programs are not available to children in need.

Participating in this years Letter Carrier Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is simple.  Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 11^th, and your Letter Carrier will do the rest.  There is also a box located in the lobby at the Barnegat Post Office (830 West Bay Ave unit 1).
