Three (3) Arrested and 31 Citations Issued at the Redwood City DUI Checkpoint
Redwood City, Ca. – On May 4, 2024, the Redwood City Police Department conducted a multi-location DUI checkpoint, which resulted in 3 arrests for driving under the influence.
The DUI checkpoints were held at El Camino Real and Hopkins Avenue from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Woodside Rd at Bay Rd from 11:00 p.m. to 01:30 a.m.
31drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked driver's license. 1689 vehicles went through the checkpoints, and 543 vehicles and drivers were randomly contacted.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
“We are committed to taking impaired drivers off the road,” Chief Kristina Bell said. “Driving under the influence is not only dangerous, but also has major consequences.” Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
