The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, APRIL 29, 2024: 
9:29 AM Officer Williams was dispatched to the area of Filbert Street & Central Avenue for a vehicle burglary. The passenger window to a vehicle was shattered and no known loss was reported.
 
3:23 PM Officer Taylor was dispatched to Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard to investigate a vehicle theft.
 
4:01 PM Officer Williams was dispatched to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard on the report of a battery. A search of the location discovered a 49-year-old male and a 40-year-old female from San Jose in possession of narcotics along with outstanding warrants. Both were transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 2024: 
7:18 PM Officer McCuin responded to a disturbance near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards. An unsheltered 39-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
11:56 PM Officer Norvell arrived at the 39900 block of Cedar Boulevard for a report of a theft. Upon investigation, it was determined that a 44-year-old unsheltered female was involved in shoplifting and subsequently arrested. She was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
WEDNESDAY, MAY 1, 2024: 
2:25 AM Officer Dale recovered a stolen vehicle near Thornton Avenue & Willow Street.
 
2:28 PM Officer Losier responded to the 6500 block of Flanders Drive for the report of a vandalism. A 53-year-old male from Newark was arrested for vandalism, including violating the terms of parole and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
7:41 PM Officer Dale contacted a 32-year-old male from Newark regarding fraudulent banking transactions. Upon discovering the male had an outstanding warrant, he was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
THURSDAY, MAY 2, 2024: 
7:31 AM Officers investigated vehicle burglaries near Balentine Drive & Newpark Mall Road. It was discovered the locks to multiple vehicles were forced open. Electronics, a generator, and various power tools were reported stolen.
 
2:42 PM Officer Stevenson was dispatched to the area of Willow Street & Mahogany Place for the report of a vehicle burglary. The loss included vehicle registration and personal documents.
 
4:59 PM CSO Mora was dispatched to the area of Mirabeau Drive & Cedar Boulevard and recovered a stolen vehicle.
 
FRIDAY, MAY 3, 2024: 
2:47 AM Officers were in the area of Newark Boulevard & Lafayette Avenue investigating a fleeing vehicle with stolen license plates. The vehicle was involved in a collision and two persons were contacted. A 24-year-old male from Union City was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, evasive driving, and evading a peace officer. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
4:39 AM Officer Kim investigated a vehicle theft near Port Sailwood Drive and Port Tidewood Street.
 
8:20 AM Officer Stevenson responded to the area of Burning Tree Drive & Hermitage Avenue to investigate a vehicle theft.
 
8:37 AM Officer Losier responded to Central Avenue & Filbert Street and recovered a stolen vehicle.
 
1:02 PM A 23-year-old male from Newark was contacted at the Police Department regarding an outstanding warrant. He was released on scene with a citation.
 
1:38 PM Officer Piquette responded to the 6000 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue and investigated a vehicle theft.
 
7:22 PM Officers responded to the area of Thornton Avenue & Cedar Boulevard for the report of a battery. A 41-year-old male from Hayward was arrested for battery and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
SATURDAY, MAY 4, 2024: 
1:26 AM Officer Kim was on routine patrol near Cedar & Newark Boulevards and observed a vehicle with expired registration. A 47-year-old male from Santa Cruz was arrested for an outstanding warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:20 AM Officer Stevenson responded to Civic Terrace Avenue & Cedar Boulevard to investigate a vehicle burglary. The rear lock to the vehicle was forced open and multiple personal packages were reported stolen.
 
10:04 AM Officer Williams was dispatched to the area of Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards for a disturbance. A 25-year-old male from Newark was arrested for violating the terms of his probation and threatening employees. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
 
2:48 PM Officer Williams recovered a stolen vehicle near Braidburn Avenue & Bettencourt Street.
 
7:08 PM CSO Mora investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar Boulevard & Mowry Avenue.
 
SUNDAY, MAY 5, 2024: 
12:47 AM Officers responded to a traffic collision near Broadway & Market Avenues. A 27-year-old male from Newark was arrested for hit and run, narcotics, driving under influence and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:04 AM Officer S. Torres was on routine patrol near Central Avenue & Sycamore Street and located a 29- year-old male from Calexico with outstanding warrants. He was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail.
 
10:01 AM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle theft near Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards.
 
10:16 AM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle burglary near Hermitage Avenue & Burning Tree Drive. The vehicle’s lock was forced open and no reported loss.
 
11:14 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary near Cedar Boulevard & Haley Street. Entry was from window smashing, loss included tools.
 
11:50 AM Officer S. Torres responded to Saint Edwards Street & Thornton Avenue to check on a suspicious vehicle. A 32-year-old male from Milpitas was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and narcotics paraphernalia. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
