May 3, 2024, Fatal Traffic Collision
On May 3, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Fremont Police Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on the 45000 block of Fremont Blvd. Officers arrived on scene and located a pedestrian suffering from major injuries. Officers immediately began providing medical aid to the victim, including providing CPR and the use of an AED (automated external defibrillator). Fremont Fire Department and medical personnel soon arrived on scene and took over medical care for the victim. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
While some officers were providing medical aid to the victim, other officers contacted the driver of the involved vehicle, which had collided with a traffic signal pole a quarter of a mile away. The driver was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained during the collision.
Fremont Police Traffic Investigators responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in this collision. This incident remains an active and ongoing investigation. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
The driver, Hung Vuu (58 years old, resident of Sunnyvale), was later arrested for Penal Code 192(c)(1) – Vehicular manslaughter and Vehicle Code 23153(a) – Driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury.
This is Fremont’s first fatal traffic collision in 2024.
