At 2:17 AM on the morning of May 6, CPD officers responded to the parking lot at 256 E. Hamilton Ave after receiving multiple complaints of a group of men drinking, playing loud music, and the sound of gunshots.
Upon arrival a CPD officer found 7 individuals surrounded with approximately 40 beer bottles in various stages of consumption. When attempting to make contact with the group, one of the individuals became combative and physically assaulted a responding CPD officer. He was subsequently placed under arrest for battery of a peace officer and resisting arrest.
After a thorough investigation of the scene, officers located an unregistered firearm and multiple spent casings near the group. The initial arrestee and an additional adult male were both arrested for willful discharge of a firearm and possession of an unregistered loaded gun.
