DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS UPDATES - May 8, 2024

Trash & Recycling Collection All Routes:

Due to construction in multiple areas, Republic Services wants to share the following announcement about trash:

  • Trash & recycling on all routes are subject to be picked up earlier than your normal time due to the construction.

  • To ensure your trash & recycling is picked up, your cart must be out by 6:00 a.m. on your designated collection day (we suggest you place your trash and recycling carts at the curb after 3:00 p.m. the night before).

  • This will be in effect for all residents until September 1, 2024.

Sewer Improvements/Maintenance:
In addition to construction projects, residents will see trucks in various areas tending to manholes. Ludlow Construction and their subcontractor will be working on sealing manholes, pipes, and making repairs. Please be mindful of this work and be cautious while driving.

Elm Street Construction Update:
Night Work: During the Week of May 20th, the Town’s contractor will be performing work on some weeknights to expedite the construction on Elm Street. We are working with contractors to only complete necessary work in the evenings in this area to minimize the impact to residents.

Weekend Work: In order to expedite the construction on Elm Street, and in an effort to minimize the period of traffic disruption, the Town’s contractor will be performing work on some weekends over the coming months.  Please be advised that there may be traffic delays in the area and large trucks and heavy commercial vehicles will be detoured.

We want to remind residents that businesses in this area remain open and encourage you to utilize the municipal parking lots on Central Street or Southworth Street (Coburn Elementary School) for parking to access these businesses.  For additional updates on this project and others, please visit www.townofwestspringfield.org/constructioncalendar

Paving Week of 5/13/2024: Milling has been completed and work on the manholes and catch basins will begin on Kings Highway, Bonnie Brae and Overlook Drive, Highland Lane, Highland Park Drive, Prospect Avenue 86 aka Grasso Avenue, and Old Orchard Road. Full depth road reclamation and fine grading and paving will start on Gooseberry Road, Adrian Avenue, Alderbrook Lane, and Sheridan Avenue.  See www.townofwestspringfield.org/pavingcalendar for additional information.

Unidirectional Flushing Program:
Please be advised the Department of Public Works will be continuing its water main flushing program throughout the next couple of weeks.

No interruption of water service is expected during the flushing program. Some consumers may experience temporary discoloration and low water pressure to their home or place of business.  If you notice discolored water, run COLD water in your bathtub until it runs clear.  If residents experience any change in water quality after the flushing is complete or have questions about the program, they should contact Deputy Director of Water Michael O'Connell at (413) 263-3230.
