A Message From GTPD Chief David Harkins: National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day

A Message From Gloucester Township Police Chief David Harkins: National Police Week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day

As we celebrate National Police Week this upcoming week and National Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by those who serve on the front lines of our communities, ensuring our safety and upholding the rule of law. This week, we come together to honor and express our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women of law enforcement.

National Police Week is a time to acknowledge the dedication and service of the men and women of the Gloucester Township Police Department. It is a time to reflect on the tremendous responsibility that Officers carry day in and day out. Our Officers put their lives on the line to protect our community, often facing danger with courage and resolve.

Our Officers are the ones who rush towards danger when others flee. They are the ones who work day in and day out to keep our community safe. They are the ones who show empathy and compassion to those who are in need. They do this by sacrificing their time with their families, and enduring immense stress and pressure.

Beyond their badges and uniforms, they are fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters. They are members who are woven into the very fabric of our community, who care deeply about the well-being of those they serve. They are your neighbors and friends, who are bound by the call to be “Servant Leaders” to our community.

As we celebrate National Police Week, we remember “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends“ (John 15:13). We will not forget those who have laid down their lives in the service of law enforcement. We will re-commit ourselves to serving in the noblest profession, which is law enforcement.

On behalf of the men and women of the Gloucester Township Police Department, I thank the great community of Gloucester Township for their unwavering support.

David J. Harkins #122
