Lt. Greg Stevenson with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office finished up another great week of the TIM Program today at West Marion Elementary! Sheriff Buchanan even slipped in and got to answer some questions on the panel!
The TIM Program stands for Teaching Students Life Saving Lessons while Improving the Quality of Life while Maintaining a Safe Learning Environment. Fifth grade students across McDowell County get to enjoy a presentation given by a McDowell County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The 5-day program consists of the following lessons:
1. SRO Introduction and Duties
2. Laws and Crimes vs. School Rules
3. Drug Education
4. Bullying/Social Media
5. Role Model
The TIM Program is named after Tim Duncan, a McDowell County Law Enforcement Officer who dedicated a bulk of his career teaching “DARE” in McDowell County Schools and making a positive, lasting impact on children’s lives. Tragically, Tim lost his life in September of 2008 in an off-duty incident.
