Rialto Police Detectives Begin Homicide Investigation

On Sunday, May 12th 2024, at approximately 9:12 a.m., the Rialto Police Department Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a person who had been shot at a residence in the 300 Block of S. Willow Ave.  Officers arrived within minutes and located the female victim, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the scene by Rialto Fire Department Paramedics.

The suspect, Leonardo Rios-Gonzalez, was also located in the home suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Preliminary information indicates Rios-Gonzalez shot the victim, before turning the gun on himself.  Rios-Gonzalez was transported to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he remains in critical, but stable condition. There was a relationship between the victim and Rios-Gonzalez however, the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.  Rialto Police Department Homicide Detectives have assumed the investigation, and will be filing homicide charges with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office against Rios-Gonzalez.

The Rialto Police Department requests anyone with information related to the investigation contact Detective Sergeant Ralph Ballew at (909) 533-7463.  Witnesses can also anonymously report information through WeTip at (800) 782-7463.
