* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Northeastern Cameron Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Southwestern Lafayette Parish in south central Louisiana... Jefferson Davis Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Acadia Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Northern Vermilion Parish in southwestern Louisiana...

* Until 600 PM CDT.

* At 517 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Welsh to near Thornwell to near Creole, moving east at 50 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

* Locations impacted include... Lafayette, Crowley, Abbeville, Eunice, Jennings, Scott, Rayne, Kaplan, Church Point, Welsh, Lake Arthur, Iota, Gueydan, Mermentau, Fenton, Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, Klondike, Evangeline, Duson, and Maurice.

Instructions:

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into a small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
