GTPD Media Release- Driver and Passenger of Motorcycle Seriously Injured In Crash with SUV

On Monday, May 13, 2024 at approximately 11:01 pm, Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to Woodbury Turnersville Rd., in front of number 425, for a reported motor vehicle crash. Callers reported that a motorcycle, with two occupants, had struck an SUV. It was reported that the operator and female passenger, of the motorcycle, had both been thrown from the vehicle and were severely injured. Officers arrived to find a motorcycle upright, with the front protruding into the engine compartment of the SUV. Officers along with BLS / ALS and fire attempted to stabilize the victims. The victims were then transported to Cooper Hospital Trauma, with serious injuries. There were no reported injuries in the SUV, and all occupants refused treatment.

Officers assigned to the Gloucester Township Serious Crash Investigation Team (SCIT) arrived and conducted the investigation. Woodbury Turnersville Rd. was shut down for approximately 2 hours. Initial investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling West on Woodbury Turnersville Rd. when the SUV attempted to make in left turn into #425 Woodbury Turnersville Rd, in front of the motorcycle, causing the crash. There were signs the driver of the motorcycle attempted to avoid the SUV, but was unable to avoid the crash. The crash currently remains under investigation, there are no charges at this time.

As we enter the summer months, the Gloucester Township Police Department reminds drivers to be alert because motorcycles are smaller and often difficult to see, and that the operator still has the same rights of the road as any other motorist.
