INCIDENT: PC 664/187 - Attempted Murder
LOCATION: 6400 block of Valley View Street, Joshua Tree
SUSPECT(S): Scott Gorgins, 34-year-old resident of Joshua Tree
SUMMARY: On Sunday, May 12, 2024, at approximately 9:32 a.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a disturbance in the 6400 block of Valley View Street, in Joshua Tree. Immediately upon their arrival, deputies located an elderly victim inside of her residence, who suffered from significant trauma to her face and right eye, and she was unable to see. The victim was immobilized due to her severe injuries. Through further investigation, it was determined the elderly victim was attacked by Scott Grogins, who punched the victim several times on the right side of her face. Grogins fled the residence prior to deputies' arrival.
Subsequent to Grogins' assault on the victim, her injuries necessitated medical transport to a local hospital. As a result of Grogins' violent attack, the victim sustained multiple orbital fractures and contusions.
After the assault, deputies continued with their investigation. At approximately 3:08 p.m., deputies conducted an area check in the 61000 block of Twentynine Palms Highway. With the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation, deputies located Grogins on Valley View Street near the intersection of Petunia Drive. Grogins was taken into custoday and arrested for Penal Code 664/187 - Attempted Murder. Grogins was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and his bail has been set at $500,000.
