Narrative:

Sheriff’s Cold Case Unit investigators arrested a suspect responsible for a murder that occurred in 2004.

On April 16th, 2004 at approximately 5:30 P.M, deputies responded to a residence located in the 12500 block of Mountain Trail Street, in the city of Moorpark, in reference to a check the well-being call.  Deputies entered the residence and located a deceased male subject inside, who was later identified as Dennis Wood, the resident of the home.  Mr. Wood had been shot and was the apparent victim of a homicide.  Wood was 71 years of age at the time of his death.  Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office investigated this case until all leads were exhausted and the case became cold.

Throughout the years, Sheriff’s investigators periodically reviewed the case and identified Antoine Nehme as a potential suspect in Wood’s murder.  In 2023, investigators from the Sheriff’s Cold Case Unit reopened the case and uncovered evidence linking Antoine Nehme to Mr. Wood and his murder.  On 05/14/2024, investigators arrested Nehme for the murder of Dennis Wood.  Nehme is currently incarcerated at the Ventura County Jail awaiting court proceedings, with bail set at $2,000,000.00.

Anyone with information regarding Mr. Wood’s murder is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Cold Case Unit at (805) 383-8739 or email [email protected].
