The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce it has earned accreditation from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) by demonstrating outstanding compliance with NCCHC’s nationally recognized standards of care for correctional health services in jails around the country. NCCHC Standards provide the framework to ensure that systems, policies, and procedures are in place to produce the best outcomes in the most cost-efficient and effective manner. This is the first time the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has achieved accreditation with NCCHC. This accreditation acknowledges the steadfast commitment of both the Sheriff’s Office and Wellpath, the provider of medical and mental healthcare services in our correctional facilities, to deliver top-notch health services to approximately 1,300 inmates under our care. We understand the challenges our correctional staff face and greatly appreciate the collaboration between medical and correctional staff to ensure incarcerated individuals receive appropriate care. To obtain NCCHC accreditation, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office underwent a rigorous professional assessment in March 2024, where a team of experienced physicians and experts in correctional health care surveyed the facility for compliance in many important areas including: • Patient Care & Treatment • Health Promotion • Safety & Disease Prevention • Governance/Administration • Personnel/Training • Special Needs & Services • Medical Legal Issues The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Detention Services Division houses men and women charged or sentenced on misdemeanor and felony crimes. For 45 years, NCCHC’s highly respected standards provided guidance to help correctional health professionals and administrators improve the health of their incarcerated populations and the communities to which they return; increase efficiency of health services delivery, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and reduce the risk of adverse legal judgments. |
