Roofing Scam Leads to Three Arrested

Ongoing investigation into roofing scams leads to three suspects arrested for using fake business names and licenses to scam elderly victims.

San Mateo, CA – On May 08, 2024, San Mateo Police Department arrested three suspects in connection with an ongoing roofing scam investigation initiated in November 2023.

Beginning in November 2023, San Mateo Police Department officers began investigating a possible roofing scam involving elderly adult victims.  As the investigation unfolded, officers learned a group of white males, with “Irish accents,” operating under a fake construction company named, “Statewide Roofing and Siding” to conduct a scam targeting elderly adults.  The suspects used a fraudulent contractor license and overcharged the victims for construction work that was not completed and likely not needed.  Officers coordinated with other Police Departments throughout San Mateo County and found additional victims of similar roofing scams.

On May 7, 2024, San Mateo Police Department received another report from a victim stating he believed the roofing company he hired to repair the roof of his mother’s house was scamming him.  After agreeing to a “free” roof inspection and determination that minor repairs were needed, the company was hired. However, the suspect continued to add additional costs for the repair stating more work was needed and finally suggested the entire roof needed to be replaced. While investigating this reported scam, officers learned the suspects were using fake names, and another fake company name, “Teco Roofing and Masonry,” to scam victims.  The following day, May 8, 2024, officers contacted the three subjects involved in this roofing scam.

The suspects were identified as Charlie Anderson, David Anderson, and Darren Temple.  All three suspects were arrested and booked into San Mateo County Jail.

San Mateo Police department is still investigating these crimes and we are looking for additional victims.  If anyone had any roofing construction completed by “Statewide Roofing and Siding” or “Teco Roofing and Masonry,” please contact Officer Thornburg at the San Mateo Police Department.
