Advisory

SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN Recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month.

The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This month is identified by the Green Ribbon.

One stigma, in Law Enforcement, is when you express a need for help or feel overwhelmed, you are viewed as weak, but that’s so far from the truth.

Mental health issues, in law enforcement, can significantly impact, not only, the officers and their families, but also the citizens they come in contact with daily.

The most common challenges, among law enforcement employees, include substance abuse, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Over the years, exposure on the job takes its toll. That’s why Mental Health Awareness is so important to me. I am a leader that understands the mental health and wellness of employees and citizens and will recognize, support, understand, and make meaningful changes to help you all.

Two initiatives I have started under my leadership:

    1.    I have created a stress-free zone (Wellness Room) at the Sheriffs Office. This room is open to all employees, both on duty and off. This room was created to bring complete peace to the employee and assist in clearing their minds from anxiety & negativity. If an employee encounters a stressful or overwhelming situation, they can enter this room and decompress.
    2.    Mental Health is “REAL” I have dedicated one of my Patrol Cars to the cause of bringing mental health awareness to the community of Clayton County, in hopes of talking openly about mental health. With this, we can reduce the misconceptions and stigma, and encourage those who are suffering to seek help and find a support network.

As always, I want everyone to realize their full potential. Your Sheriff has your back!!!!
