The National Weather Service has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH effective for the Oak Grove - Bates City area. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of thunderstorms that may contain winds of 58 miles per hour or greater and/or hail of 1 inch diameter or greater. Severe thunderstorms may also produce flooding rains, and/or dangerous lightning, and/or may produce tornadoes with little or no warning.

Take the following action now:
Make sure that you know the location of children and pets and place them under your immediate supervision.
Secure loose outdoor items, such as lawn furniture and trash cans.
If you have a NOAA All-Hazards Radio, check to make sure it is turned on and receiving a signal. Otherwise, listen to a local television or radio station that has local news for further information.
If stormy conditions or threatening clouds approach, or if lightning is seen or thunder heard, go indoors and stay away from windows.
If heavy rain is flooding streets avoid driving through areas where water of unknown depth is running across the street or areas where the road surface cannot be seen. Do not drive around barricades on flooded streets.
