Newark Police Department Crime Blotter May 13 - 19, 2024

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 
 
MONDAY, MAY 13, 2024: 
12:33 PM Officer Williams arrested a 31-year-old male out of Newark for a domestic battery. An emergency protective order was granted and the arrestee was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
4:59 PM Officer S. Torres arrested a 32-year-old male out of Newark for a restraining order violation from a business in the 7100 block of Thornton Avenue. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
  
TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2024: 
7:08 AM Officer Williams conducted a pedestrian stop on a 39-year-old male out of Newark in the 36600 block of Newark Boulevard. A records check revealed the subject had multiple outstanding warrants and was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
7:47 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a hit and run vehicle collision involving a paratransit van in the area of Fernwood Drive.
 
12:50 PM Officers investigated an auto burglary that occurred overnight in the area of 6100 Newpark Mall. Loss was tools. 
 
3:41 PM Officer Williams conducted a traffic stop on Lafayette Avenue and contacted a 24-year-old male out of Redwood City with a warrant. He was cited and released with a new court date.
 
7:36 PM Officers responded to a robbery that had just occurred in the 35000 block of Newark Boulevard. A store employee was unlocking a hair product case, at which time two suspects battered her and knocked her to the ground. The two suspects stole high-end hair products and fled in a red Chevrolet Camaro with an unknown license plate.
 
WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 2024: 
6:55 AM A window smash auto burglary occurred overnight in the 37000 block of Sycamore Ave.
 
7:38 AM An auto burglary occurred in the 39900 block of Balentine Drive. Entry was made via rear passenger window and loss was a laptop.  
 
8:32 AM Grand theft from a vehicle parked in the area of 6100 Newpark Mall. Loss was tools.
 
8:32 AM While investigating the above unrelated incident, Officer S. Torres contacted a 52-year-old male out of Carmichael with an outstanding warrant who was also in possession of an illegal switchblade. He was cited and released.
 
THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2024: 
1:38 AM Two storage units were burglarized in the 38200 block of Cedar Boulevard. Four possible suspects were involved and fled prior to the officer’s arrival.
 
3:21 AM An unknown suspect(s) broke a front glass window of a business in the 5500 block of Thornton Avenue and stole the cash drawer. The suspect(s) also attempted to enter a nearby business but was unsuccessful.
 
3:51 AM Officer Cervantes investigated an auto burglary and attempted vehicle theft that occurred between 11:30PM – 3:45AM on Christine Street. An unknown suspect rummaged through the vehicle and damaged the steering column.
 
6:36 AM A silver Hyundai Santa Fe was reported stolen overnight from Port Sailwood Dr.
 
7:46 AM Officers responded to a verbal argument between two parties at a business on the 39800 block of Balentine Drive. One party was arrested for an unrelated felony warrant. A 36-year-old male out of Tracy was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
8:31 AM Officers arrested a 51-year-old female on the 36900 block of Mulberry Street for domestic battery. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
 
9:24 AM A gray 2012 Infiniti G37 was stolen from the 37000 block of Sycamore Street.
 
12:01 PM Officers investigated a possible assault with a deadly weapon, weapon brandish, and criminal threat investigation in the 37000 block of Cherry Street. Involved persons were known to each other. A 22-year-old male was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail. An associated report of domestic battery was also documented and sent to the district attorney.
 
9:27 PM Officer Kim arrested a 50-year-old male out of Newark on the 7400 block of Morton Ave for a warrant. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
FRIDAY, MAY 17, 2024: 
6:56 AM Officer Lara investigated a burglary to the maintenance office of a hotel on Cedar Boulevard. Loss appears to be tools, and it is unknown when the incident occurred. No suspects or investigative leads were developed.
 
9:36 AM Officer Frentescu investigated a report of identity theft from a victim who owns a house in Newark and rents it using AirBnB.  A prior house guest from 2022 apparently opened an account using the homeowner’s personal identifying information and accrued $1000 in Comcast/Xfinity charges. Investigation is ongoing.
 
9:39 AM Officer Piquette documented a report from a school account being “hacked” and possible claims of extortion.
 
2:15 PM Officer Stevenson investigated an auto burglary on the 6200 block of Buena Vista Drive, which occurred over the last couple of days. Victim vehicle is a 2010 Lexus RX350, and loss is some paperwork. No suspects or investigative leads were developed.
 
3:10 PM Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person near Rockrose Court.  A 29 year-old-male out of Newark was arrested for attempted vehicle theft, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and for violating the terms of his probation. He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
10:07 PM Officer Kim conducted a traffic stop and ultimately arrested a 28-year-old male out of Oregon for possession of a meth pipe. He was released with a citation.
 
SATURDAY, MAY 18, 2024: 
2:15 AM Officers responded to a report of a hit and run collision with the responsible vehicle pulling into a garage.  Officers made contact at the responsible address and contacted a 57-year-old male out of Newark who was arrested for DUI and possession of cocaine.  He was booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
SUNDAY, MAY 19, 2024: 
2:14 AM Officers responded to a report of a driver passed out in the roadway on Thornton Ave near Elm Street.  Officers contacted a 61-year-old male out of Fremont who was arrested for DUI and booked at Santa Rita Jail.
 
6:40 PM Officers responded to a report of a restraining order violation on Mulberry Street. A 51-year-old female out of Newark was arrested and booked at Santa Rita Jail.
