Crime Blotter for the Week of May 12, 2024 – May 18, 2024

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of May 12, 2024 – May 18, 2024.        
 
May 12, 2024

  • Petty Theft:
1050 Huntington Drive (Target). On May 12, 2024 at 8 PM, suspect unknown stole the victim’s wallet from her purse that was left unattended while she was shopping at the location. The loss was approximately $300. A possible surveillance video is available.
 
May 13, 2024

May 14, 2024
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1131 Central Avenue (Carmax). On May 14, 2024 the location reported that suspect(s) unknown fraudulently purchased a vehicle, a white 2019 BMW 330, back on May 6, 2023. The vehicle was recovered in Texas. No surveillance video is available.

May 16, 2024
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1050 Huntington Drive (Target). On May 16, 2024 at 8:15 PM, the suspect, a male white adult wearing a blue jacket and blue pants, was observed in the cosmetics aisle concealing multiple items of cosmetics in a blue bag the suspect had brought in with him. The suspect exited the location without attempting to purchase the items. Store asset protection called “911” while the suspect was in the store concealing the items and a Deputy was waiting for the suspect as he exited the location, where the suspect was arrested. The stolen product was valued at approximately $800. Surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1600 Block of Brycedale Avenue. On May 16, 2024 between 1:30 AM and 6 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's parked vehicle, a silver 2000 Lexus GS300. No surveillance video is available.
 
May 17, 2024
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1312 Duarte Road (La Simpatia Meat Market). On May 17, 2024 at 2:50 AM, suspect(s) unknown forced entry through the front door and proceeded to enter the location. The suspect ransacked the location and stole U.S currency from the registers. The loss was approximately $300. Surveillance video is available.
 
May 18, 2024
  • Petty Theft:
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On May 18, 2024 at 8:44 PM, suspect unknown stole the victim’s red iPhone mini that was left unattended at the self-checkout at the location. The loss was approximately $300. A possible surveillance video is available.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
  1. Target Hardening - Making your property harder for an offender to access
    • Upgrading the locks on your doors, windows, sheds, and outbuildings
    • Using secure passwords to prevent criminals from hacking your online accounts
  2. Target Removal - Ensuring that potential crimes of opportunity are out of view
    • Not leaving items in view through your windows (i.e. laptops, phones, keys, bags)
    • Putting your vehicle in the garage if you have one and not leaving valuables on display
    • Being cautious about what you post online as it may be used to identify or locate you offline
  3. Reducing the Means - Removing items that may help commit an offense
    • Don’t leave items lying around that could be used to force entry into your vehicle or house
    • Not leaving tools and ladders in plain view
    • Trim back shrubbery hiding doors or windows
  4. Reducing the Payoff - Reducing the profit the criminal can make from the offense
    • Marking your property in such a way that others will not want to buy it from the thief
    • Inscribing your initials on property in several locations
    • Never buy property you believe or suspect to be stolen
