Police Seek Help Identifying Assault Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé seeks the public’s assistance in identifying the below-pictured male suspect in connection with an assault that occurred on Monday, May 20, 2024.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Police responded to Sanford Avenue and South Orange Avenue on a call of an assault. A male and female entered the NJ Transit bus at the 900 block of South Orange Avenue. The two passengers began quarreling and approached the driver to resolve the issue. When the driver refused to engage in the discussion, the male sprayed an unknown liquid in the face of the driver before he and the female suspect exited the bus.

Detectives investigating this incident observed surveillance footage of the male suspect, who is described as either Hispanic or Black. He was wearing an orange shirt, black pants, and has a tattoo on the right side of his neck. He is also a frequent rider on the No. 31 bus route.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
