Assault with a deadly weapon suspect taken into custody by Simi Police K9

On May 22, 2024, at approximately 5:25 PM, Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to several emergency 911 calls reporting a male construction worker causing disturbances in the vicinity of 2100 block of Brownstone Creek Ave. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Elvin Arturo Velasquez Maldonado of Pacoima, was observed throwing large boulders at parked car windows and screaming incoherently while walking through the neighborhood.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed multiple incidents of felony vandalism. Additionally, it was discovered that Maldonado had assaulted the homeowner he was initially working for, striking the individual with a large boulder.

A K9 Officer successfully located Maldonado in the area. At the time of contact, Maldonado was armed with two large boulders. Despite being ordered to drop both boulders and comply with officers' commands, Maldonado only dropped one boulder and refused to relinquish the other or lay on the ground.

After several attempts to safely disarm the suspect, the K9 unit was deployed to subdue Maldonado. He was taken into custody without further incident. Maldonado was then transported to Simi Valley Hospital for medical evaluation before being transferred to Ventura County Main Jail. He has been booked on charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, multiple counts of Felony Vandalism, and Resisting Arrest.
