DATE/TIME: May 23, 2024
INCIDENT: P.C. 664/215 - Attempted Carjacking
P.C. 594 - Felony Vandalism
LOCATION: Victoria Avenue / Highland Avenue, Highland
SUSPECT(S): 15-years-old male juvenile, resident of Menifee
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On May 11, 2024, at 12:17 a.m., a crowd of approximately 100 people surrounded the intersection at Victoria Avenue and Highland Avenue with their vehicles to participate in a street takeover. An unknown subject opened the fire hydrant to flood the intersection, making it easier for their vehicles to "drift."
During the incident, a deputy from the Highland Sheriff's/Police Station was stopped at the intersection for a red light. While the deputy was stopped at the intersection, a large crowd swarmed the deputy's patrol vehicle and began kicking and punching the patrol unit. A male juvenile kicked and punched the patrol unit with other unidentified subjects. The patrol unit's windshield was completely broken along with other reported damages caused by the juvenile.
During the investigation, detectives obtained video footage of the incident and identified a 15-year-old male juvenile as the primary suspect. It was later determined the juvenile opened the deputy's driver door, attempting to overtake the deputy and his patrol unit. The deputy was able to close his door and drive away from the crowd and drive to safety.
Detectives from the Highland Sheriff's/Police Station obtained an arrest warrant for the male juvenile and a search warrant for his residence. On May 23, 2024, at 6:33 a.m., detectives arrested the juvenile at his residence for the above charges and served the search warrant. The juvenile was transported and booked into the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.
