Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of May 13-19, 2024

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There were two robberies and one attempted robbery during the past week.

On Tuesday, 05-14-24, at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers were dispatched to Smart & Final on Mission Street on a report of a robbery. A manager stated he observed two suspects exit the store through the stock room with a cart containing 40 to 50 boxes of candy. The manager asked the suspects for a receipt, and one of the suspects punched him three times in the ribs. The manager flipped the shopping cart over. The suspects proceeded to grab 4 to 5 boxes of candy worth approximately $175 and entered a vehicle with a third suspect, the driver. They fled north on Mission Street. The first suspect, who punched the manager, was described as a Black male, approximately 20 years old, 125 pounds, 6’1” tall, wearing a black jacket, gray pants, and yellow and red boxers. The second suspect was described as a Black female, approximately 18 years old, and 90 to 100 pounds. This investigation is continuing.

On Friday, 05-17-24, at approximately 5:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Lucky’s Supermarket on Mission Street on a report of a robbery. A security guard stated that a suspect entered the store and concealed approximately $70 worth of dental products in a backpack. The suspect then grabbed a large bottle of alcohol. The security guard asked a store employee for assistance in escorting the suspect out of the store. The store employee asked the suspect for the bottle of alcohol. The suspect then lifted the alcohol over his head and pretended to hit the store employee. The suspect then lowered the bottle from his head without swinging it at the store employee. The store employee, afraid of the suspect, took a step back. The security guard also said that the suspect had verbally threatened him. The suspect left the bottle in the store, exited with the backpack of unpaid dental products, and fled. Officers later located the suspect, and after positive identification by the store employee, the suspect, a 29-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested and eventually booked into jail for robbery and other offenses.

On Saturday, 05-18-24, at approximately 7:39 p.m., officers were dispatched to Schwerin Street and Velasco Avenue on a report of an attempted robbery. A victim said she was approached by four suspects, and then one suspect kicked her, causing her to fall to the ground. Once on the ground, she was continuously kicked and also kicked at least once in the head. The suspects attempted to take a grocery bag. The suspects boarded a bus and left the area. Eventually, the suspects were located. A witness positively identified the suspect who had kicked the victim in the head. This suspect, a 13-year-old San Francisco resident, was arrested and booked into the Youth Services Center for attempted robbery and battery.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
