Cranbury Township Police are actively investigating a successful phone scam theft that occurred yesterday, 05/22/24, at approximately 2:00pm. The victim was contacted via a landline telephone. Suspect 1 told the victim that their grandchild had been arrested and needed $10,000 to be released from Police custody. Suspect 1 told the victim that they would send someone to pick them up to facilitate a bank withdrawl. At approximately 2:05pm,  a black Toyota Prius arrives at victim's residence. The victim got into the vehicle and was driven to the village branch of Lakeland Bank. The vehicle parked along Westminster Avenue, directly in front of the bank's main entrance. The driver stayed in the parked vehicle while the victim went into the bank to retrieve the money. The victim was driven back to their residence and dropped off. Suspect 1 calls back the victim and tells them that a “courrier” will be coming to the house to pick up the money. Between 2:10pm and 2:25pm hours, Suspect 2 can be seen walking along  North Main Street near Barclay, to and from the victim's home, prior to and after collecting the money. Suspect 2 is described as a white male, medium build and height, wearing khaki pants, a dark-colored polo-style shirt and carrying a dark-colored shoulder bag.
