Two Injured in LaGrange Township Crash
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on May 23th, 2024, at approximately 1113 Pm his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash at Pokagon Hwy and Dailey Rd, LaGrange Township, Cass County, Michigan. Investigation showed a vehicle traveling north on Dailey Rd failed to yield to oncoming traffic on Pokagon Hwy. The second vehicle was traveling east on Pokagon Hwy and crashed into the northbound vehicle. Both vehicles left the roadway on the southeast side of Pokagon Hwy and crashed into a utility pole. An active power line covered the vehicle that was traveling north, and caused it to start on fire. The vehicle had two occupants, and both were able to remove themselves from the vehicle, where deputies attempted life saving measures until Medical Personnel arrived. SMCAS transported both occupants of the vehicle traveling on Daily Rd. The passenger went to South Bend Memorial Hospital and the driver went to Borgess Lee. From Borgess Lee, medical staff arraigned to fly the driver to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
The occupants of the vehicle traveling on Pokagon Hwy did not suffer any serious injuries.
This crash remains under investigation. Names are being withheld pending notifications to family member. Assisting agencies include Dowagiac Police Department, Pokagon Tribal Police, Cassopolis Fire Department, Dowagiac Fire Department SMCAS Ambulance
