Traffic Stop in Grand Terrace Leads to the Arrest of a Suspect in Possession of a Firearm

LOCATION: 22700 block of Grand Terrace Road, Grand Terrace
SUSPECT(S): Chad Johnson, 35-year-old resident of Fontana
Erik Lemus, 38-year-old resident of Grand Terrace
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On May 22, 2024, at approximately 3:58 PM, Deputy A. Fonzi from the Central Station conducted a traffic stop in the 22700 block of Grand Terrace Road, in Grand Terrace, for expired registration. Fonzi contacted the driver, Chad Johnson, and passenger, Erik Lemus.
A records check showed Lemus had a felony warrant from the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court. Lemus fled on foot and was apprehended by deputies. During the foot pursuit, witnesses at the incident location saw a subject throw a black bag out of the vehicle. Fonzi recovered a loaded Taurus model 85 revolver from the bag. During an inventory search of the vehicle, Fonzi recovered a loaded H&R model 949 revolver which was reported stolen out of Fontana.
Chad Johnson was arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center for felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, and felon in possession of ammunition. Erik Lemus was arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center for his felony warrant.
