On Saturday, May 25, 2024, at approximately 06:35 p.m., Petaluma Police Dispatch received calls regarding a solo vehicle collision in the area of Sonoma Mountain Parkway and Mauro Pietro Dr.  The vehicle reportedly struck the raised median.  A police officer responded to the scene and contacted Christopher Arreguin Avalos, determined to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision.  
 
The Honda Civic that had been driven northbound on Sonoma Mountain Parkway by Arreguin Avalos, was located facing northbound in a southbound lane.  The vehicle had extensive front end damage, but Arreguin Avalos was uninjured.
 
The investigating officer attempted to complete a DUI investigation based on his observations of Arreguin Avalos.  Ultimately, Arreguin Avalos declined to participate in any field sobriety tests. 
 
Arreguin Avalos displayed objective signs of alcohol intoxication along with signs and symptoms indicative of drug use. The officer determined Arreguin Avalos was operating the vehicle while under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs at the time of the collision. 
 
Arreguin Avalos was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI. Arreguin Avalos attempted to pull away and flee from officers after being placed into handcuffs.  During a search of Arreguin Avalos’ person, the arresting officer located a bag containing suspected cocaine. Arreguin Avalos was additionally charged with obstructing/resisting a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.
 
Arreguin Avalos was transported to a local hospital for an evidentiary blood draw and later transported to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked on the listed charges.
