LOCATION: 4000 block of Grand Avenue, Montclair

SUSPECT(S): Matthew Galvez, a 19-year-old resident of Pomona  David Luna, a 19-year-old resident of Pomona

SUMMARY: On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at around 10:00 PM,  investigators from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were in the area of Grand Avenue and Kadota Avenue in unincorporated Montclair for an unrelated investigation. During their investigation, they witnessed the occupants of a vehicle shoot a handgun maliciously at a car and home. It was later confirmed that no one was injured during the shooting. 

CHP investigators followed the suspect vehicle as it fled the shooting scene. As the investigators followed the car, an occupant of the suspect vehicle shot a firearm at the investigators. The suspect vehicle eluded capture after the shooting. The CHP investigators were not injured. Deputies and detectives from the Chino Hills Sheriff's Station responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. 

Chino Hills detectives investigated and worked with CHP Inland Division Investigative Services investigators. Through the investigation, the suspect vehicle was identified and found in Pomona. The suspects were identified as Matthew Galvez and David Luna. Another local police agency attempted to contact Galvez during a traffic stop. Galvez fled the traffic stop, led officers on a vehicle pursuit, and ultimately evaded capture. Luna was contacted during a traffic stop after the shooting and was arrested. 

Chino Hills detectives requested the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Specialized Enforcement Division (SED) assist with serving a search warrant at Galvez's residence. Detectives also obtained a warrant for Galvez's arrest. The search warrant was served, but Galvez was not found. 

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at around 12:20 PM, Galvez was found at a home in Montclair. SED arrested Galvez, and he was transported to the Chino Hills Sheriff's Station.
 
Luna and Galvez were arrested for multiple offenses and were booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
