DETAILS: On the dates of May 23rd & 24th, 2024 the Amarillo Police Department’s Specialized Operations Division, Criminal Investigation Division, the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division, DPS Highway Patrol Unit and ATF, FBI, & HSI, conducted a joint operation to address the city’s ongoing and increasing gang-related violent crime. Over sixty officers from these various agencies partnered together to conduct investigations and coordinate efforts to combat individuals identified as being involved in violent and gun related offenses within the city. During the operation, the DPS Highway Patrol Unit along with patrol units from APD conducted over seventy-two (72) traffic enforcement stops in neighborhoods identified as high crime areas. During these stops there were over eighteen (18) arrests for on-view charges and/or arrest warrants. The APD Special Ops unit as well as DPS CID drafted and conducted three (3) search warrants for residences both in Randall and Potter County within the city limits. During these search warrants, five (5) firearms, just under three (3) pounds of methamphetamine, just under a pound of cocaine, and approximately fourteen thousand, one-hundred dollars ($14,100) of drug proceeds were seized. The Amarillo Police Department and Department of Public safety will continue to partner with our community to crack down on these criminal organizations and bring to justice anyone who threatens the peace and safety of our citizens.
