INCIDENT: P.C. 664/187 - Attempted Murder
LOCATION: East End Avenue and Grand Avenue, Unincorporated Montclair
SUSPECT(S): Gabriel Melgoza, a 32-year-old resident of Pomona
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On Monday, May 27, 2024, at around 11:08 a.m., Chino Hills patrol deputies were flagged down by concerned citizens regarding an adult female lying in the roadway near East End Avenue and Grand Avenue in unincorporated Montclair. Deputies found the female who was suffering from significant injuries. The female was transported to a local hospital by medical personnel and was placed in an Intensive Care Unit. The victim was expected to survive her injuries.
Chino Hills deputies and detectives investigated and learned the victim was deliberately struck by a vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle used during the crime. Through investigation, the suspect vehicle was identified and found at a home in Pomona. The suspect was identified as Gabriel Melgoza. Melgoza and the victim were known to each other. Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Melgoza.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at around 01:23 a.m., officers from a local police agency attempted to contact Melgoza during a traffic stop. Melgoza failed to yield and led officers on a vehicle pursuit that ended in Riverside County. Chino Hills deputies took custody of Melgoza after the pursuit. Melgoza was arrested for attempted murder and was booked at West Valley Detention Center.
