The 46th Annual Parker Tube Float is Coming Up: Whether Floating or Boating Be Prepared and Be Safe

May 28, 2024

The 46th Annual Parker Tube Float is June 8th, 2024, on the Parker Strip of the Colorado River.  This event is a United States Coast Guard permitted event from 7:00am to 5:00pm.  The float consists of inflatable tubes and rafts that float downriver from Buckskin State Park and travel approximately 3 miles to La Paz County Park where the event ends.

Participants are encouraged to bring plenty of water and sunscreen, a trash receptacle, and an oar or other means of paddling out into the main channel of the river if the current or wind pushes them towards shoreline.  Propeller driven boats are encouraged to stay out of the area due to the inherent dangers they present with swimmers or rafters in the water.  All boaters who wish to travel either up or downriver from Bucksin to La Paz County Park must proceed through the event at a “no wake” speed and stay well clear of participants.

There will be a total of 11 patrol boats on the water, as well as a San Bernardino County Fire boat, during the event.  These boats are there to ensure the safety of participants takes highest priority.  The patrol boats are “NOT” used to tow rafters and tubers up or down the course.  Personnel working the event on personal watercraft will be clearly marked and utilized to assist participants as needed.  Once participants reach La Paz County Park, they are to paddle their rafts or tubes to shoreline as this is the finish line for the event.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and urges everyone to boat sober and wear their life jackets. For more information regarding safe boating practices, visit the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways web site at www.dbw.ca.gov.
