As part of new Federal and State mandates, Briarcliff Manor is undertaking an inventory of lead service lines to map out the materials used in the pipes that provide water from the street to individual customers. Over the last 30 years, Village staff have not encountered lead in either residential service lines or water mains but we nevertheless must comply with this mandate. Village standards changed after 1960 to use copper instead of lead for service connections, so our efforts will initially focus on the nearly 1600 homes built prior to 1960. Postcards will be mailed at the end of May only to those older homes. In addition, some homes built after 1960 may be randomly selected to perform confirmation of compliance with the newer standard. The Village is required to complete the study by October 15, 2024. You can email [email protected] Allow Village staff to enter your home as they go door-to-door to selected homes beginning in mid-June. Village staff will carry photo identification to confirm their official role. Your participation is invaluable to us and will help ensure the well-being of our entire community as we complete this vital task! During the inventory project, to maximize the efficient use of DPW staff, the Village will also be replacing aging water meters, which are typically upgraded every 20 years. Meters will be upgraded throughout the Village, but starting with the inventoried homes will allow us to complete the replacement project without a second visit to your home.
