Marion Police Department Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

Monday May 1, 2024, Officer Zach Wilson of the Marion Police Department was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Main Street, when he observed the driver of a white GMC truck not wearing his seatbelt. Officer Wilson initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle on West Court Street, where he found Cristian Rangel to be the driver.
Upon Officer Wilson’s approach, a strong odor of Marijuana was coming from the driver’s side of the vehicle. Wilson then observed a Marijuana “joint” in the cup holder that had been partially consumed. A search of the vehicle resulted in locating 648.8 grams of Marijuana and 1.80 grams of Cocaine.
Rangel was arrested and charged with the following violations:
- Possession of Marijuana (felony)
- Possession with Intent to Manufacture Sale and Deliver Marijuana (felony)
- Maintaining a Vehicle for the Sale of a Controlled Substance (felony)
- Possession of Cocaine (felony)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (misdemeanor)
Rangel was placed in the custody of the McDowell County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.
The 2011 GMC Sierra Denali Truck Rangel was driving was seized by the Marion Police Department.
