Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun and drug charges.
On May 25, at approximately 3:08 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1300 block of North Market Street, in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, police made contact with the suspect – 32-year-old Derrick Grant-Higgin, who was taken into custody without incident. Grant-Higgin was found to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber handgun, 1 gram of crack cocaine, and 42 grams of marijuana.
Grant-Higgin has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited – Three Counts
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Theft Under $1,500
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Two Counts
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $18,000 secured bail.
