17 Cited and 1 Arrested at Berkeley DUI/ Driver License Checkpoint May 24th

On May 24, 2024, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint on Ashby Ave at San Pablo Ave.
 
901 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint. 17 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 1 driver was arrested for an outstanding warrant for DUI. An additional 19 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held on June 28, 2024.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
