Volunteers Needed June 8th for Planting 20 Trees at Hox Acres Green Space
Dear Residents!
I am pleased to announce that Washington Township has been awarded 20 new trees from ReLeaf and DTE Energy Foundation
Volunteers are needed Saturday, June 8, 2024
ReLeaf Michigan, a statewide non-profit tree planting organization, and
the DTE Energy Foundation, in collaboration with Washington Township, will plant 20 new trees at Hox Acres on Saturday, June 8. ReLeaf Michigan is looking for volunteers to help with the plantings. These trees will line this new community green-space and will provide a buffer for a new housing development going up nearby.
Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing and bring a shovel, hard rake, and work gloves if they have them. The group will meet at 8:45 a.m. at 64464 Mound Rd. Washington Twp, MI 48095 to sign in, enjoy refreshments, and watch a planting demonstration with ReLeaf Michigan’s tree experts.
The event occurs rain or shine. No planting experience is necessary. Join us for the morning and leave an environmental legacy that will add to the beauty of your community for generations. Families are welcome.
The DTE Foundation awarded ReLeaf Michigan funding for 2024 to plant a minimum of twenty trees in 15 communities throughout Michigan.
Trees provide incredible benefits to the communities in which they are planted. Trees improve air and water quality, reduce storm water runoff, improve mental wellness, reduce childhood asthma rates, cool our
neighborhoods, and enhance commercial and economic vitality.
ReLeaf Michigan, a 36-year-old non-profit organization, partners with communities statewide to replenish community tree canopies through volunteer tree planting events. Supervisor Sebastian ‘Sam’ Previti stated, “ This is exciting to receive these 20 trees in order to fully develop our Hox Acres Green Space!”
