Narrative: |

On May 17, 2024, at approximately 8:37 a.m., deputies from the Camarillo Patrol Station responded to a carjacking incident at the In-N-Out Burger located on Ventura Boulevard. The suspect, identified as Ismael Arellano, approached an adult female victim under the pretense of needing to use her phone. Subsequently, the suspect used force to take the victim's vehicle keys and drove off with the stolen vehicle. Detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau, Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit, and Camarillo Police Department Investigations Bureau, responded to assist with the investigation. It was discovered that Arellano was on active parole for a felony violation of Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The victim's vehicle was later found abandoned in downtown Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Police Department, where Arellano voluntarily turned himself in. Following these events, Arellano's parole was revoked, and he was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department for the parole violation. A subsequent search of the victim's vehicle by Ventura County Sheriff’s Office detectives uncovered additional evidence linking Arellano to the carjacking. A warrant was issued for Arellano's arrest on charges of carjacking, possession of stolen property, and unlawful taking of a vehicle. Arellano was apprehended on May 23, 2024, at the Los Angeles County jail and transferred to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Pre-Trial Detention Facility. The case was presented to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, which has filed one felony count each of carjacking, possession of stolen property, and unlawful taking of a vehicle against Arellano. He remains in custody with bail set at $200,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for June 5, 2024. The successful resolution of this incident was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Division of Adult Parole, the Los Angeles Police Department, and vigilant members of the public. It is collaboration such as this that made the capture of the suspect and return of the victim’s property possible in such a timely manner. |
