Recent Mountain Lion Sightings
A mountain lion has been spotted in Milpitas, just south of the Warm Springs neighborhood in Fremont. Although mountain lions typically avoid humans, it’s important to take the necessary precautions to reduce your risk of encountering one:
• When recreating outside, avoid being alone at dawn, dusk, or night. If you must, stay alert.
• Remember mountain lions are wild animals and their behavior may be unpredictable.
• Keep pets leashed and don't let small children run ahead.
If you do encounter one:
• Never approach a mountain lion. Give them an escape route.
• DO NOT RUN. Stay calm. Do not turn your back.
• Do not crouch down or bend over.
• Face the animal, make loud noise and try to look bigger. If with small children, put them on your shoulders.

According to the Department of Fish and Wildlife, a person is one thousand times more likely to be struck by lightning than attacked by a mountain lion.
