Grass Clippings Information

  • Grass clippings are NOT picked up by the City and are NOT accepted at the City’s Recycling Center.
  • Grass clippings (and dirt) are NOT considered yard waste and will not be picked up for disposal. Do not bag or put grass clippings in containers for waste disposal.
  • Grass clippings should NEVER be placed in the street, gutter or curbside. Doing so can clog sewer drains and cause flooding which can damage property and pollute lakes.
  • For residents that hire landscaping services, it is the resident’s responsibility to ensure the landscaping service is aware of this information as fines will be directed to property owners.

What should I do with grass clippings?
  • Cut grass and leave it on your lawn or use it for composting.
  • For a fee, Monmouth County Reclamation Center (732-683-8686) will accept grass clippings at 6000 Asbury Avenue, Tinton Falls. Call for details and fee information.
 
What happens if I dispose of my grass clippings incorrectly?
  • Residents who improperly dispose of their grass clippings can receive a violation warning or summons and fine as per City of Asbury Park Municipal Code Section 19:2.1, 2b Regulation of Collection.
 
Yard Waste Information
  • Yard waste includes brush, shrubs, vines, hedges and old flowers/plants. Grass, leaves and dirt are not to be included. Including grass, leaves or dirt in yard waste can result in a violation warning or summons and fine.
  • Put yard waste in bags and place curbside for pick up on your scheduled garbage day.
  • Branches can be placed curbside for pick up on your scheduled garbage day but must be tied in bundles no heavier than 60 pounds and no longer than 4 feet.
  • The City does not pick up tree stumps.
