Mayor Baraka and Public Safety Director Frage Announce Grand Opening of Metro Precinct with Community Roll Call

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Public Safety Director Fritz G. FragĂ©, Deputy Director of Police Operations Sharonda Morris, and Police Chief Emanuel Miranda announced the grand opening of the Newark Police Division’s new Metro/9th Precinct with a community roll at 22 Franklin Street.

The grand opening of the Metro/9th Precinct included a community roll call, offering the public behind-the-scenes insight into the Police Commanders’ process of assigning officers to specific coverage areas. Led by Captain Segarra and Lieutenant Best, officers were deployed to both walking and mobile assignments within the bustling downtown area.

With a staff of some 70 Newark Police Officers, including two Community Service Officers, dedicated to addressing the community’s felt needs, and a School Resource Officer, the Metro/9th Precinct is equipped with a full complement of new Newark Police vehicles, featuring the city’s new Arts and Education District logo.

Newark Council Members Michael Silva and C. Lawrence Crump attended the grand opening event alongside Melvin Waldrop, Chief of Staff of the office of Newark Business Administrator Eric Pennington.

The public is welcome to visit the new Metro/9th Precinct to seek Police services around the clock. The Precinct is also supported by a Metro Substation, located at 189 Market Street. The Substation is open to the public from 8 a.m. to midnight, 7 days a week. #newarknj #publicsafety #police #community #partnership #newjersey #cops #tips #CrimeStoppers #BackTogetherAgain
