POLICE ARREST MAN ON DRUG CHARGES, RESISTING ARREST AND PROHIBITED PERSON IN POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 31, 2024– The Hollister Police Department arrested a local man for multiple drug related charges, resisting arrest, and being in possession of ammunition as a convicted felon.

On May 31, 2024, at about 12:31 A.M., Officer C. Schneider was on routine patrol in the area of Monterey Street and B Street when she noticed someone riding an electric bicycle unsafely and running stop signs.  She decided to conduct a traffic stop on a bicyclist.

Officer C. Schneider contacted the rider of the bicycle, later identified as Miguel Mendoza (48).  Mendoza was not cooperative and initially started riding away before turning back.  When asked for his identification, he threw his identification on the ground. Officer Schneider asked Mr. Mendoza if he possessed any weapons. He admitted to having a knife.  Mendoza was told multiple times not to reach for the knife.  However, he continued to reach into his pockets.  Officer Baugher arrived to assist and the officers attempted to detain Mr. Mendoza in handcuffs until they could search him.  He resisted officers by pulling away from them, tensing up and refusing to show the officers his hands. Additional officers arrived and assisted taking Mr. Mendoza into custody.  Mendoza was subsequently placed under arrest for resisting, delaying, and obstructing an officer.

While conducting a search of Mendoza’s property, Officer C. Schneider located multiple baggies, suspected methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, scales, and other drug paraphernalia. Officers also discovered a box of ammunition, and records check revealed Mendoza was a convicted felon, thus making it illegal for him to possess.

Mendoza was transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked on the charges of resisting, delaying, or obstructing a peace officer, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited, transporting a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sales, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Anyone with information regarding these investigations is requested to contact Officer C. Schneider at 831-636-4330. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME. Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
