Gilroy Police Investigate a Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision
On May 31, 2024 at approximately 10:50 P.M., Gilroy Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call of a vehicle colliding with a pedestrian in the area of First Street and Eigleberry Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man unresponsive in the roadway. The victim was suffering from major injuries, consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Life-saving measures were administered by the Gilroy Fire Department. The male was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival. The suspect vehicle was described as a black or dark colored sedan and last seen driving westbound on First Street. The vehicle likely sustained significant damage from the collision.
This incident is being investigated by the Gilroy Police Department’s major accident investigations team (M.A.I.T.). Identification of the victim is pending next-of-kin notification.
