Newark Police Department Crime Blotter May 27 - June 2, 2024
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, MAY 27, 2024:
1:02 AM Officer Medina was dispatched to the 5600 block of Thornton Avenue on the report of a disturbance. A 37-year-old male from Newark was discovered intoxicated along with multiple outstanding warrants. He was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
8:49 AM Officer Jackman responded to the 35000 block of Cedar Boulevard for the report of a catalytic converter theft.
2:49 PM Officer Frentescu was dispatched to the 6000 block of Joaquin Murieta Avenue and investigated a vehicle burglary. The passenger window was shattered with no known loss.
6:59 PM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle theft near Sycamore Street & Dairy Avenue.
TUESDAY, MAY 28, 2024:
1:47 PM Officer S. Torres was flagged down by a citizen to investigate a vehicle theft near Ruschin Drive & Newark Boulevard.
4:05 PM Officer Pacheco responded to Cedar & Stevenson Boulevards on the report of a disturbance. A 42-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was arrested for criminal threats and narcotics. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking on the charges.
9:25 PM Officer Lor was dispatched to multiple vehicle burglaries near Newpark Mall Road & Balentine Drive. The rear windows were shattered with loss including power tools and work equipment.
11:011 PM Officer Lor investigated multiple vehicle burglaries near Newpark Mall Road and South Magazine. The windows were shattered with various power tools reported taken.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 29, 2024:
2:53 AM Officer McCuin investigated a vehicle theft from the area of Cherry Street & Joaquin Murieta Avenue.
5:44 AM Officer Kapu investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries near Harbor Light Road & Lookout Way. Loss included work tools, a first aid kit, and a toy.
7:35 AM Officer Stevenson investigated a vehicle burglary from Newpark Mall Road and South Magazine.
8:28 AM Officer Losier investigated a vehicle theft from the 37000 block of Sycamore Street.
10:20 AM Officer Dale responded to a disturbance on the 37000 block of Locust Street. A 30-year-old male from Hayward was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail for disobeying court orders, making criminal threats, and violation of probation.
5:56 PM Officer Torres arrived on the 5300 block of Milani Avenue on the report of a suspicious person. A 21-year-old unsheltered male from Newark was arrested for theft, loitering, and obstructing arrest. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
8:16 PM Officer Lor investigated multiple vehicle thefts from the area of Spruce Street & Merion Drive.
THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2024:
2:01 AM Officer Lor was on patrol and flagged down to investigate a vehicle burglary from the 37000 block of Magnolia Street. Loss included an iPad, various supplies and a vacuum.
6:43 AM Officer Dale investigated multiple window smash vehicle burglaries in the area of Cherry Street & Stevenson Boulevard. Reported loss included a laptop, sunglasses and vehicle paperwork.
8:43 AM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle burglary from the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The front window was shattered with no known loss at this time.
9:50 AM Officer Stevenson investigated multiple vehicle burglaries from the area of Harbor Light Road & Lookout Way. Entry was from window smash with no known loss at this time.
11:41 AM Officer Dale arrived at the 37200 block of Elm Street on the report of a domestic disturbance. A 21-year-old male from Newark was arrested for corporal injury and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
1:21 PM Officer Lara investigated a window smash vehicle burglary on the 37000 block of Cedar Boulevard. Reported loss included a laptop, tools, and a backpack.
1:22 PM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle burglary occurring at the 5900 block of Mowry Avenue. Entry was from forcing the lock, resulting in multiple power tools taken.
4:24 PM Community Service Officer (CSO) Vuong was dispatched to a theft from an unlocked vehicle on the 6000 block of Peppertree Court. The loss was a garage door opener and an electric bicycle.
4:55 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to a vehicle burglary on the 6200 block of Lido Court. Entry occurred by lock picking with a loss of residential mail.
8:00 PM Officer Medina was flagged down by a citizen to investigate a vehicle burglary on the 6100 block of Newpark Mall Road. Entry was from forcing open the lock, loss currently is undetermined.
FRIDAY, MAY 31, 2024:
1:34 AM Officer Lor investigated a vehicle burglary from the area of Cherry Street & Thornton Avenue. The vehicle’s window was forced down with the loss of a purse.
4:35 AM Officer C. Torres was dispatched to a vehicle burglary in the area of Dragonfly Street & Mitten Crab Way. Entry occurred by window smash and loss included reading glasses, vehicle registration, and cash.
9:45 AM Officer Stevenson investigated multiple vehicle burglaries occurring near Fog Shrew Road & Guitarfish Way. The windows were shattered, known loss included home furnishings.
6:58 PM Officer C. Torres investigated an interrupted vehicle burglary occurring near Newpark Mall Road & Alpenrose Court. Entry occurred by window smash with no known loss at this time.
7:47 PM CSO Lau was dispatched to a report of a vehicle burglary near Harbor Light Road & Lookout Way. A window was reported shattered with no known loss.
8:49 PM Officer Swadener conducted a traffic stop near Mowry Avenue & Alpenrose Court. The driver, a 40-year-old male from Sunnyvale, was arrested for narcotics and an active warrant. He was released on scene with a citation.
10:51 PM CSO Mora was dispatched to a vehicle burglary near Harbor Light Road & Schooner Way. A window was smashed with no known loss at this time.
SATURDAY, JUNE 1, 2024:
3:49 AM Officer Soto was flagged down on Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street for a report of shoplifting in progress. Three male juveniles from Newark were arrested for theft and evading arrest. They were released with a citation.
8:39 AM Officer Lara investigated a vehicle theft that occurred near Civic Terrance Avenue & Greenpoint Street.
9:50 PM Officer Swadener conducted a pedestrian stop near Thornton Avenue & Newark Boulevard. A 37-year-old male from Pacifica was arrested for public intoxication and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
11:55 PM Officer Orozco was dispatched to Central Avenue & Willow Street on the report of a suspicious vehicle. A 20-year-old male from Fremont was arrested for an outstanding warrant and transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2024:
8:03 AM Officer Kim was dispatched to an assault on the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue. A 53-year-old male from Newark was arrested for battery, assault, and violation of parole terms. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
2:34 PM Officer Frentescu investigated a vehicle theft on the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard.
2:38 PM Officers responded to Spruce Street & Jarvis Avenue for an unconscious person. Upon investigation, a 47-year-old male from Newark was arrested for aggravated assault, and a 42-year-old unsheltered male was arrested for robbery. Both were transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
7:39 PM Officer C. Torres was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Saint Matthew Drive & Baine Avenue. A 33-year-old female from Newark was arrested for narcotics and released on scene with a citation.
7:58 PM Officer C. Torres arrested a 28-year-old female from Newark with an outstanding warrant, and released on scene with a citation.
