**2nd UPDATE** The Janesville Police Department would like to say “thank you” to the Janesville community for their patience and support. The incident on N Washington St at W Court St is still considered an active investigation. There are no public safety concerns and the incident is currently under control. N Washington St will remain closed off with a police presence, but W Court St near the 5 Points Intersection will be opened back up for passing traffic. The Janesville Police Department will provide additional information at a later time. 

*1st UPDATE* The Janesville Police Department is still actively investigating an incident on North Washington St.  Early this morning officers were investigating a domestic violence incident.  The officers were talking to the suspect when he fired several shots at officers.  The officers were not physically injured by gunfire.  The Janesville Police Department SWAT Team has been on-scene since about 4 AM trying to get the suspect to surrender.  The Janesville Police Department SWAT Team is supported by Beloit SWAT Team / Bearcat and Dane County's Bearcat.  Please avoid the area, once additional information is available we will send another update.  The public's cooperation in this incident is appreciated and is necessary for the officers to provide for the safety of the community, officers, and the suspect.
