SMPD arrested a suspect for possession of drugs, firearm, and illegal fireworks. 
 
San Mateo, CA – On June 2, 2024, at 10:46 a.m., San Mateo Police Department received a 911 call regarding a disturbance between a dating couple at a home located on the 300 block of North Grant.      
 
As multiple officers responded to the area.  The male who was involved in the disturbance, Moris Ruiz-Canizales, was located seated in a parked car near the residence.  Officers searched the car and located illegal fireworks and marijuana. 
 
Officers continued to investigate and talked to everyone involved.  Officers then searched the house.  Inside Ruiz-Canizales bedroom, officers found over 9 pounds of marijuana, a total of 162 grams of methamphetamine, an unregistered pistol with a silencer and ammunition, and over 140 pounds of illegal and dangerous fireworks. 
 
Ruiz-Canizales was placed under arrest for firearm and drug related charges, possession of illegal and dangerous fireworks, and other charges.  Ruiz-Canizales was ultimately transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail.   
 
We need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness.  If you witness a crime, contact police immediately.  Try to remain as calm as possible and do your best to answer questions on the phone.  Remember details such as the suspect’s appearance, clothing, any distinguishing features, and which direction they flee. Once the police arrive at the scene, cooperate fully, and provide the officers with all the information you have.  Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation.

11379(a) HS- Transport controlled substance, 29800(a)(1) PC- Felon in possession of firearm, 29900(a)(1) PC- Possession of firearm by prohibited person, 30305(a)(1) PC- Possession of ammunition by prohibited person, 33410 PC- Possession of silencer, 11364(a) HS- Possess unlawful paraphernalia, 11360(a) HS- Possession of marijuana for sell, 30515(a)(4) PC- Possession of a semiautomatic pistol with threaded barrel, 12677 HS- Possess fireworks without permit, 29825(b) PC- Possessing firearm with a protective order.
